Bulbasaur (Japanese: フシギダネ Fushigidane) is a dual Grass and Poison-type Pokémon. It is also the first Pokémon in the national dex order.

Zoology[]

Fushigidane are reptilian-like creatures with blueish-green skin. On their skin, there are randomly placed darker green dots. They are mostly seen on all-fours, but are able to rise up to their hind legs due to the bulb on their back, which balances them.

Gender Differences[]

There are no gender differences.

Special Abilities[]

Fushigidane is able to use its bulb to summon many different powders, leaves, petals, and vines. Fushigidane are also able to launch a seed at the opponent, zapping the opponents energy. When sun-bathing, they are able to convert the sunlight into healing moves such as Photosynthesis or attacking moves such as Solar Beam .

Temperament[]

Fushigidane are known to be very docile creatures. Due to being handed out as Starter Pokémon, they are also extremely easy to raise and are also seemingly domesticated. Fushigidane seem to be extremely loyal to their trainers and very protective of other Pokémon as well. When they're not protecting their trainers and friends, they are normally seen lounging around in the sun and gathering energy.

Another thing Fushigidane have been known to do it migrate. Large herds of Fushigidane gather in a hidden garden, where they all evolve into Fushigisou.

Diet[]

Main article: Pokémon Food

Fushigidane are known to be omnivores, though they mostly gather energy and nutrients through photosynthesis.

Territory[]

Grassland

Fushigidane, when not living in a laboratory or with a trainer, prefer to live in places like grasslands. They also seem to be fond of open fields.

Manga[]

In the Pokémon Special Manga, Red is given a Fushigidane by Professor Oak.

There is a Fushigidane named Danerina in Pokémon PiPiPi Adventure. She is owned by, and is extremely protective of, Pistachio. Whenever Pistachio talks to other women, Daneria becomes extremely jealous.

In the Electric Tale of Pikachuu, Satoshi has a Fushigidane.

Anime[]

The most notable Fushigidane in the anime is Ash's Fushigidane, which he obtained in Fushigidane of the Hidden Village.

Much later, Haruka captured a female Fushigidane, which she received in King of the Forbidden Forest! Fushigibana!!.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being able to learn Vine Whip and breed with Masukippa, who is able to learn Power Whip , Fushigidane is unable to obtain said move by breeding.

Origins[]

Bulbasaur's English name comes from the words bulb and saur, which is Greek for lizard. Fushigidane's Japanese name comes from the word fushigina, meaning "strange, isn't it?" or "how strange", and is a pun on 不思議種 fushigidane, meaning strange seed.
